Antique Jadestone Beaded Necklace w/ Terracotta Clay Bead Accents. Circa: 1890 to early 1900's.
Description:
An elegant hand-crafted Jadestone Beaded Necklace from Sri Lanka, of flattened form ornamented with hand-moulded terracotta clay-fired pumpkin and squash-shaped beads, measuring 8.5 inches (21.59cm) in diameter.
The necklace was hand-carved by Sri Lanka artisans, utilizing the highest quality natural emerald green jadestone imported by middle eastern trade, each stone intricately ground, shaped, and polished in a round flattened form, accented by beautifully fashioned squash and pumpkin shaped clay beads, artistically hand-moulded from gathered terracotta clay and kiln-fired at a low temperature, rendering a rich brown unglazed bisque colour.
The necklace was hand-strung on heavy silk cord, finished with a hand-woven clasp and matching jade fastener. Bead count of 138 Jadestones and 5 Clay beads, totaling 143 beads.
