    Description

This is a used sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This sample features two different patented barbs. First is an Arthur S. Burnell patent, dated June 19, 1877; and second is a Purches Miles patent dated October 8, 1878. This wire is called "Burnell's Cross Over Four Point Barb & Miles Staple Combination Barbs on Two Lines", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier - no listing found for these two barbs in combination). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Burnell Barbs are four pointed made by inserting points of two round barbing wires between line wires, and not hooking or crossing over the two points. Remainder of barbing wires are wrapped together around both line wires. The Miles barb is made by clinching a round staple barb around one line. This wire sample also has a long one-line factory splice. This sample is 18" in length and has four Burnells barbs and one Miles Barb. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is fairly well centered. Wire shows age wear, with moderate pitting, and some bending of barbs. There are no broken or repaired barbs. Wire is in overall in good used condition. There are no off odors. I have listed other wires, both as auction and fixed price listings. We will gladly combine multiple purchases for shipping, when paid on the same invoice ... using the buy it now option. First wire ships for .50; additional wires are fifty cents each extra. Twelve or more wire ship for free.
